Singaporeans looking to apply for a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat on Tuesday (17 November) faced issues in submitting their online applications, with some posting their complaints in Facebook.

Some said they were unable to pay the administrative fee to apply for a HDB flat, while some were unsure if their payment got through since they did not receive a confirmation, reported Channel News Asia (CNA).

Others received a “502 bad gateway” message.

This comes after HDB launched over 5,700 flats for sale under the November 2020 Build-to-Order (BTO) exercise. It also offered 5,220 flats across various town and estates under the Sale of Balance Flat exercise.

HDB said that it is aware of the issues facing some users and assured that it is working to resolve them.

“We are aware that some flat applicants are facing issues when submitting their BTO/SBF (Sale of Balance) applications online, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused,” HDB said in a Facebook post and quoted by CNA.

“Applicants with unsuccessful payment records and/or did not receive any confirmation email are advised to try again later.”

The Housing Board explained that the sales exercise will go on for a week, hence, buyers will have until 11.59pm on 23 November to submit their applications.

“Successful applicants will be determined by a computer ballot, and not on a first-come, first-served basis,” added HDB.
